Do you smell what we smell? The crisp, fresh air of a new is arriving, and so is a new version of MyBB!

We’re excited to announce that MyBB 1.6 is coming early 2010! There are 49 brand new features included. We’ve been working on MyBB 1.6 since the release of 1.4 in August of 2008, and the long work has paid off! Below are just a few of the new, exciting features MyBB 1.6 offers.

PHP 5.1.0 minimum

As we have alluded in the past couple of years, MyBB 1.6 will be the first version of MyBB to run on PHP 5 installations only, and more specifically, servers set up with PHP 5.1.0 as a minimum. This is only an issue for about 10% of you who are still using a host running obsolete versions of PHP; it might be time to give your host a slight nudge forward if you are in this group.

  3. Very Cool! I was going to redo my MyBB Multiforums Mod for 1.4 but now that 1.6 is coming out I’ll probably skip the redo and just code a new version straight for 1.6. I can’t wait to get my hands on a stable beta. 🙂

    Maybe in the future it would be a good idea to force plugin writers to code for a specific standard that allows myBB to install/uninstall plugins directly from the AdminCP like wordpress.

  6. This has already been done with a plugin. I made something called pluginBB, which allow for people to do this.However it is only downloadable on my site.

    Also, cant wait for the release of this 😀

  19. Oh wow… I love the screenshots already! 🙂 Especially the VideoMyCode now being part of the core – I know my users will really like that function. Can’t think why searching Private Messages was never included before now that one considers it :p

  24. When i try to download the SVN, it asks for a username and password…i enter mine from here, however it does not work….why is this?

  31. @Brushfire This release is more just adding to the code rather than changing stuff around, which means a lot of plugins and themes that work with 1.4 will work with 1.6 with some very minor changes.

  32. thanks for the details, i have got the beta of the svn server without downloading it through svn i downloaded the files 1 by 1 so it took ages to get it but it was worth it

  34. Hi Matt and Ryan,
    i installed 1.4.11 and you know that there is 404 error in mod_security and you said you solved this problem in 1.6
    if we upgrade to 1.6, will this problem go away and can we contact our host company to re-enable the mod_security again to make our sites safer. will there be any problems about it?
    and i use Justins 1.4.11 themes on my sites and is upgrading to 1.6 will effect the themes..
    By the way, when this is gonna be out. i am really tired of calling my host about the mod_security everyday…

  35. Yes, if it’s been fixed, clearly it’ll go away in 1.6. Yes, they can just re-enable it. I don’t know why you need to call them about it every day though. And yes, as has been said a few hundred times, themes will need to be updated to work with 1.6, and as has been said a few thousand times, there is no set date for the 1.6 release.

  36. i call them everyday because i have multiple sites and growing every other day. i install mybb to everyone of them and if this bothers you, i wont do that..

    Does this version fixes the bug that puts moderators from a different group on the moderators group?

    The RPG Crew in this forum has its own group, however it’s still on the moderators group (because they moderate a certain section).

    Is this only work for ” days ” after the latest Post or only ” Make Thread ” after ~20 day delete?

    It would be better, to make an ” [Close/Delete/Move etc.] [How Much Days/Week/Month] after Latest Post “
